The WGDS Runs A 5 K Race

On the morning of September 22nd 2012, 130 runners, donig a rainbow of different coloured shirts each representing their 16 different organizations of origin, took to the streets in the Guelph CHC Downtown 5 K Race, with a goal to raise funds to support the Strengthening Families Programs in our community.

Those organizations who came out to support the cause included The County of Wellington, The City of Guelph, Wyndham House, Family and Children’s Services, Trellis Mental Health and Developmental Services, Sanguen Health Centre, Guelph Wellington Women in Crisis, The Research Shop at the University of Guelph, Guelph Police Services,  Wellington County OPP, The AIDS Committee of Guelph and Wellington County, Homewood Health Centre, Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health, Family Counselling and Support Services, Legal Aid, Supportive Housing of Waterloo, as well as several friends and family!

Over $8000 was raised by the team, which helped to cover program costs for Fall 2012 Strengthening Family programming, including free on site child care to allow families with small children to participate, a hot family meal for all participants each week, and transportation assistance for those needing support to get to the programs.  Additionally, space rental, facilitator training and program material costs were also covered by the funds raised.

A sincere thanks to all of those who came out!  A special acknowledgement to Shakespeare’s Arms and Borealis for their generous prize contributions as well.
